Velaa Private Island marks a decade of luxury excellence with a season of milestone events
To celebrate its 10th anniversary as the Maldives’ most exclusive island destination, guests can expect a host of opulent and extraordinary events at Velaa Private Island this month.
Velaa’s brand-new art exhibition and silent auction will honour the Czech heritage of the Šmejc family who opened the property a decade ago, with a culmination of vibrant glassworks created by three up-and-coming artists from the region. Alongside this, the anniversary cocktail party and decadent gala dinner will commemorate all that Velaa has achieved since its launch.
The Glass Collection Art Exhibition: Debuts 20th December
Velaa will launch its Art Gallery on 20th December with debut exhibition, The Glass Collection, which has been carefully curated by KODL Contemporary, known for its discerning eye within the Czech art scene. The exhibition will feature internationally renowned creators Rudolf Burda, Lukáš Novák, and Rony Plesl – each of whom will be crafting pieces tailored exclusively for Velaa’s anniversary. Rudolf Burda’s piece The Energy of the Universe draws inspiration from the natural world and the intrinsic beauty of glass, whilst Lukáš Novák’s artistry is showcased through the use of light refraction to create kaleidoscopic imagery, and Rony Plesl is renowned for his elegant and monumental glass sculptures. Plesl’s showcase at Velaa will feature ‘Man & Woman’ and ‘Le Grand Jeu’; elegant and intellectual sculptures which draw from classical motifs to address the essence of human existence. Although distinct in individual style, the artists’ pieces will collectively capture the unique experience and sophistication of Velaa Private Island, and blend past with present in a celebration of the Šmejc family’s Czech heritage.
Velaa’s 10th Anniversary Cocktail Party and Gala Dinner: 20th December
Celebrate past, present, and future at Velaa Private Island’s 10th anniversary gala dinner on 20thDecember. With pre-dinner drinks and speciality cocktails from 7-8pm in the AVI BAR, an exquisitely prepared banquet will follow out on the covered tennis courts, which will be turned into a ballroom for the event. Dinner will be accompanied by live music from an incredible 26-piece Ibiza Live Orchestra.
Silent Auction: 20th – 31st December
Velaa will launch a charity silent auction during the anniversary gala dinner (20th December), which will run until midnight 31st December 2023. The ‘Maldives Reminiscence’ piece up for auction is made exclusively for Velaa and has been meticulously crafted from hand-cut optical glass. One of the latest works by up-and-coming Czech artist, Lukáš Novák, the piece is designed with kaleidoscopic reflections to represent the magnificent colours of Maldivian sunsets, and the unique encounter of every visitor to Velaa Private Island. As a part of Velaa Private Island’s 10th Anniversary, all proceeds from the auction will go to charity.
