The Cadogan, A Belmond Hotel Launches Immersive Literary Themed Afternoon Tea

The Cadogan, A Belmond Hotel, a boutique retreat in the heart of Chelsea, has launched a new, immersive, literary themed afternoon tea.

Served in the beautiful surroundings of the Maison Lounge, imaginative sweet and savoury delicacies take guests on a journey through the pages of much-loved, classic novels, curated by Head Pastry Chef, Pierre Morvan, and Executive Chef, Chris Hill.

CHAPTER I – A JOURNEY AROUND THE WORLD

Guests can expect an assortment of finger sandwiches inspired by the flavours of locations featured in the 1872 novel, Around the World in 80 Days. Experience the heady aromas of Bombay with spiced chicken and mango chutney on seeded wholemeal; journey to Hong Kong with spiced pork, apple chutney, and onion bread; New York with oak smoked salmon and cream cheese on a mini bagel; before arriving back in London with cucumber, dill, and cream cheese on fresh, white bread or mature cheddar and pickle.

CHAPTER II – AN ODE TO LITERARY CLASSICS

Transporting diners to outer space, a spiced mousse and pear cake is inspired by From The Earth To The Moon. A crunchy shortbread rocket is filled with pear compote and five-spiced cream mousse, glazed in orange cocoa, served alongside an edible dark chocolate moon which, when broken into pieces, reveals a delectable surprise. Sitting atop a miniature elephant, The Steam House is a chocolate and caramel tart made up of smooth caramel cremeux, cocoa crumbs, whipped dark chocolate ganache and chocolate adornments, an ode to the steam-powered mechanical elephant in the book.

Inspired by the discoveries of Professor Otto Lidenbrock in Journey to the Centre of the Earth, a mushroom-shaped blackberry mousse is served alongside cepes whipped cream and a cepes puree, while a chestnut and vanilla cake with Bavaroise chestnut, Suisse meringue, vanilla cremeux and mascarpone Chantilly captures a hot air balloon soaring gracefully through the clouds, depicting the tale Five Weeks in a Balloon.

For the penultimate stop in the journey, guests are greeted with a selection of warm scones, served with Cornish clotted cream and fruity, homemade jam. A Petit Beurre Nantais completes chapter two, a shortbread native of Nantes, France, and the hometown of Pastry Chef, Pierre Morvan. Invented by Louis Lefèvre-Utile, the modern version of this traditional delicacy is a delicate combination of Petit Beurre Mousse, Savoie sponge, praline, Dulcey chocolate biscuit and caramel.

CHAPTER III – A TOAST TO YOUR ADVENTURE

No afternoon tea would be complete without an array of flavoured teas; choose from Newby Tea Selection, the world’s most awarded luxury tea brand. Whether an aromatic green, Oolong or Tisane, each tea arrives with a mini hourglass to perfectly measure brewing time. Guests can toast their experience with the speciality Bon Voyage cocktail, a punchy blend of Kraken Spiced Rum, pink grapefruit juice, pineapple juice, lime, Falernum and Grenadine syrups, garnished with charcoal and beetroot powder, or a glass of Rathfinny Classic Cuvee champagne.

The Literary Afternoon Tea starts from £65 per person, available between 12pm and 6pm, seven days a week in Maison Lounge at The Cadogan, A Belmond Hotel. Vegan options are available and dietary requirements can be catered for.
