A Taste of Tuscan Sunshine in the City

COMO Castello Del Nero Brings the Flavours of Tuscany to London’s Park Lane.

For eight nights only (17th–26th February 2022), COMO Castello Del Nero – the historic estate hidden amongst the rolling Tuscan hills – will bring a taste of Italy to COMO Metropolitan London on Park Lane. In collaboration with the award-winning team at COMO’s first Italian retreat, Executive Chef Giovanni Luca Di Pirro has created an exclusive menu highlighting signature dishes from the estate’s restaurant, La Taverna.

London diners will enjoy Chef Giovanni’s masterful techniques that pay homage to the culinary roots of Tuscany. In keeping with COMO’s locally sourced farm-to-table philosophy, only the freshest ingredients are used throughout the menu and guests can expect antipasti, home-made pasta, Florentine-style T-bone steak, pizza and a selection of hand-picked wines for a true taste of the region.

In addition to the dinner service, Chef Giovanni, who also heads up the Michelin-starred restaurant La Torre, will be hosting two pasta making masterclasses on 19th and 26th February 2022. Guests will learn the secrets of making the perfect pasta dish from scratch, alongside other Italian classics like Tiramisu. Participants can enjoy antipasti, a glass of Chef selected Italian wine and Italian desserts with coffee as part of the afternoon. Places are strictly limited, so early bookings are highly recommended.

About Executive Chef Giovanni Luca Di Pirro

Giovanni Luca Di Pirro is the award-winning Executive Chef at COMO Castello Del Nero in the heart of the Chianti region in Tuscany, Italy. Chef Giovanni’s food is – like him -all about simplicity and refinement. His cuisine philosophy is inspired by his locality and is based on local and Tuscan raw materials with attention to Italian and European products. The emphasis is on purity, quality, freshness of flavours and seasonality, giving a touch of contemporary and modernity to his creations.

Born the son of a chef in the Romagna province of Italy, Chef Giovanni knew from an early age that his soul belonged in the kitchen. He started his apprenticeship very young, working in Italy and then France with masters of the trade who taught him the importance of local produce. In 1999, he returned to Italy where he opened a restaurant in Montalcino in Tuscany and then became the Executive Chef of a prestigious hotel there. In 2012, he was appointed Executive Chef at Castello Del Nero, where he won a Michelin star for La Torre restaurant in 2014.

Chef Giovanni is currently both Executive Chef of La Torre restaurant as well as Food & Beverage Manager at COMO Castello Del Nero where he manages casual-dining restaurants La Taverna and The Pavilion.

About COMO Metropolitan London

COMO Metropolitan London combines contemporary design, a vibrant Park Lane location and expert staff. The city’s most refined neighbourhoods — Mayfair, Knightsbridge, Piccadilly — are each just a short walk away. Many rooms and suites overlook leafy Hyde Park, flooded with natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows. The iconic, contemporary style by Linzi Coppick of Forme UK uses dark walnuts, fresh whites and warm yellows, with oversized window seats in many of the rooms and large, rainfall showers. There are spaces available for private events, from business conferences in the dedicated meeting rooms, private dinners in the White Room and receptions in the stand-out COMO Suite. The Japanese-Peruvian restaurant Nobu on the hotel’s first floor features award-winning cuisine. For wellness, guests can retreat to COMO Shambhala Urban Escape, offering a full range of holistic Asian therapies in addition to yoga and a fully-equipped gym.

About COMO Castello Del Nero

COMO Castello Del Nero, Tuscany, is a 740-acre, historic estate in the world-famous Chianti wine region of Italy — and COMO’s first property in continental Europe. The Renaissance cities of Florence and Siena are both within a 30-minute drive. At the property’s heart stands a twelfth-century Castello featuring 50 rooms and suites with interiors by Milanese designer, Paola Navone. Navone has brought a light and modern ‘COMO’ aesthetic to complement and enhance the period architecture of the Castello, which sits in classic Tuscan landscaping. The Michelin-starred La Torre restaurant showcases gourmet Italian cuisine, using the finest Tuscan produce, much of it from our estate kitchen-garden, vineyard, beehives and olive groves. There are two informal restaurants, La Taverna and the Pavilion, as well as a wine cellar. In addition, there are tennis courts and a heated outdoor swimming pool. COMO Shambhala Retreat offers daily complimentary yoga for residents, therapeutic massages and expert guidance in holistic wellness.
