A Delicious Re-Design

The Launch of Kempinski Hotel Bahia’s All-Day Dining Destination is a Feast for the Senses

El Paseo Del Mar, a newly refurbished dining destination at the heart of beachfront Kempinski Hotel Bahia, has put Estepona on the map for food-lovers and stylish travellers alike. Designed by world-renowned Architect Ákos Bara, El Paseo Del Mar is comprised of three, new design-led dining venues; Black Rose The Bar, Baltazár Bar & Grill and the stylish Spíler Beach Club.

Spearheaded by Roy Zsidai, CEO of Zsidai Gastronomy Group, and co-managed by Kempinski Hotel Bahia, the €4 million project saw extensive transformations across the hotel’s lobby and destination dining. In order to craft something unique that reflected the hotel’s locale, Ákos sought inspiration from the heritage of Andalusia and created four distinct areas, each with varying design qualities. The bold, colourful design and innovative features have already made an impression on guests and locals alike, whether it’s Black Rose The Bar’s striking bar area, created to resemble the helm of a ship, or buzzy Baltazár’s vibrant reds and bold Aztec prints.

From the carpet to colour on the walls, Ákos wanted every detail of the redesign to echo the destination. The carpeted areas in the lobby feature an illustration of the Costa del Sol’s ancient coastline, anchoring the hotel to its heritage. Made especially for Kempinski Hotel Bahia, the carpet combines contemporary patterns with rich culture, declaring the lobby as a meeting point for travellers from around the world. The luxurious, deep blue featured in the carpet and the walls is a completely bespoke shade, created by layering various shades and glaze to achieve the desired deep shade.

Both Baltazár Bar & Grill and Spíler Beach Club are designed to reflect their menus of fresh, flavoursome Andalusian cuisine. Coated with rich reds, coupled with Aztec-style patterns and worn leather, Baltazár’s red and green theme is reminiscent of the rich meat dishes and fresh, locally-sourced herbs and spices from the resort’s horticultural gardens. Spíler Beach Club, on the other hand, is adorned with baby blues and cotton whites, mirroring the laidback, beachfront ambience synonymous with Estepona. Guests are invited to while away hazy afternoons on the poolside Bali-beds, tuck into a tasty seafood dish or enjoy a zesty salad, peppered with fresh-from-the-ocean shellfish.

In order to fuse Andalusia’s design history with modern methods and touches, Ákos looked at iconic buildings such as the Alhambra, the palace of Moorish Kings in Granada and the traditional glazed ceramics, bold colours and geometric shapes of the Moorish buildings, all of which have been incorporated throughout El Paseo Del Mar’s design. A variety of plants, natural fabrics and colours are also featured in order to pay homage to Andalusian culture, all of these conscious design decisions have given El Paseo del Mar a real sense of place within the sun-soaked terracotta resort.
