The American Bar’s new menu, Liquid Moments, distils 135 years of cherished memories at The Savoy into a collection of signature cocktails.
Drawing on the hotel’s rich history of glamour and innovation, ingredients for the 17 new cocktails are inspired by Savoy stories, from Marlene Dietrich’s fondness for roses to head doorman Tony Cortegaca’s homeland. For the first time, these incredible stories are combined to give The Savoy’s guests a taste of history to savour.
“Our new menu not only celebrates The Savoy’s most legendary moments, but also the individual and intangible memories created when guests walk through our doors,” says Andrea Di Chiara, bar manager, American Bar. “Each cocktail reflects a unique chapter of the hotel’s legacy, inviting guests to celebrate 135 years of glamour and innovation, as well as their own cherished experiences at the American Bar.”
Curated by bar manager, Andrea Di Chiara, and head bartender, Angelo Sparvoli, new menu highlights include:
A Touch of Pink
Since opening, The Savoy has attracted the world’s most discerning guests, from the royal family to celebrities past and present. When legendary actress and singer songwriter, Marlene Dietrich stayed, she would request exactly 12 pink roses to be waiting in her room. In honour of this tradition, A Touch of Pink combines Portobello Road gin, Muyu Jasmine Verte and lemon, scattered with perfectly pink rose petals.
Since 1986
The Savoy’s beloved doorman, Tony Cortegaca, has been welcoming guests with a warm smile for almost 40 years. Since 1986 is a tribute to Tony, incorporating white port as a nod to his home country of Portugal, alongside Bacardi Carta Blanca rum, apricot, lime and London Essence roasted pineapple soda. Together, the flavour is refreshing and aromatic, reflecting
Tony’s warm and enduring presence at The Savoy.
New Heights
Still in operation today, The Savoy’s famous ‘Ascending Room’ was the first electric lift in London, making the higher floors the most desirable for guests, who were offered smelling salts to calm their nerves from the unfamiliar movement. New Heights references this with salt-fermented blackberries, combined with Absolut Elyx vodka, Cocchi Rosa and 30&40
Apple Eau de Vie.
Tea O’Clock
Afternoon tea has been served at The Savoy since it opened in 1889, a custom recently elevated by the opening of the hotel’s new all day dining destination, Gallery. In honour of the much-loved tradition, Tea O’Clock combines smooth Grey Goose vodka and sweet Lillet Blanc with strawberries and clotted cream. Finished with Nyetimber Rosé Syrup, the cocktail perfectly evokes the indulgence of afternoon tea.
The new menu is available alongside a collection of vintage cocktails, showcasing the bar’s specialism in vintage, fine and rare spirits. Highlights include the Hanky Panky, first created at The Savoy in 1903 by legendary bartender Ada ‘Coley’ Coleman, and a White Lady made with vintage gin and Cointreau.
The American Bar is partnered with ecoSPIRITS, a circular economy company that has developed the world’s first low carbon, low waste distribution technology for premium spirits and wine.
